A Great German Tool And A Great Cause

Get Your $5 Felo Screwdriver To Benefit Cultivate KC

KC Tool takes great pride in the tools we sell, but you know that already. What you may not know is that we are deeply devoted to our beloved Kansas City and that we all LOVE to eat. So when the opportunity arises to combine three of our passions, it is only natural that we take part.

Cultivate KC is a local Kansas City non-profit that works to grow food, farms and families by not only improving the city’s food scene but also by educating and connecting local growers. We love this concept and we want to help them achieve their goals.

BUT, we also want you to get the great German quality tools you know and love at the same time. The normal price of a Felo No. 2 Phillips screwdriver is over 11 bucks, but from now until the end of August 2018 we are discounting it to five dollars, WITH ALL PROCEEDS going to Cultivate KC.

We hope you will take advantage of this great deal and this opportunity for us to give back to our community. We also know that it may be a stretch to ask you to help one of our local charities. If you choose not to take advantage, please take a moment to consider giving 5 dollars to something you believe in. A little bit can go along way in helping other people.

Torx Screws, Torx Tools Available at KC Tool

A Brief Guide to Torx and Its (Many) Variations

We have discussed previously on this blog about the highly specific “Pentalobe” screw head and the tools used in conjunction. The Pentalobe shape is a relatively new invention compared to one its cousins, the Hexalobular screw, which many people call a star or Torx. Torx is actually a trademark of Camcar Textron, so the use of its name is another example of genericized trademark, like we use the term Allen Wrench for Hex Keys.Read More »

Discontinued Felo Pliers In Stock!

Limited Quantities Available!

What a surprise when we heard that there were Felo pliers available to us on a one time buy basis! We had been told many times before they were unavailable due to being discontinued in Germany. Of course, we bought all we could knowing that we couldn’t replenish or take backorders on these tools.

We have these Felo pliers listed under the “Clearance” section of our website. It isn’t a bad idea to bookmark this page on our website (as well as the “tool of the day” page). There are all kinds of little gems like these Felo pliers popping up from time to time. Hurry while supplies last!

P.S. We are hearing some rumblings about Felo making pliers again. Nothing but unconfirmed rumors at this point, but we will keep you up to date. Be sure to subscribe for the latest news.

Felo German Impact Bits on Sale

Are impact bits right for you? A lot has been written about them since they came out a few years back. There is a constant debate surrounding, “When do I use an impact or a standard bit?”. Impact bits are “new and shiny” (comparatively) which consumers (myself included) gravitate to. Standard bits are cheap and plentiful. There is definitely a market for both standard and impact bits. So which kind do I choose? The answer isn’t complicated.  If you spent a sizable sum on purchasing a very cool impact driver isn’t it time that you arm it with the correct bit? Think about this. A Ferrari is a very cool automobile but you wouldn’t want to handicap its performance or even potentially damaging it by putting crummy low octane (or ethanol fuel) in it would you? Same sort of mentality applies to impact drivers and standard bits. Standard bits might be okay for general around the house applications but to best utilize the impact driver in the way it was designed requires impact bits. Some of the best impact bits we carry and I recommend are produced in Germany by Felo. Even though impact bits weigh in at roughly 3 times the cost of standard bits, Felo impact bits deliver higher end torque and repeated impact invulnerability than standard bits could ever hope to match. Tip damage and metal fatigue is minimized by Felo’s custom absorption cascade used to diffuse pressure. The precision machined tips grip the fastener securely preventing cam-out failures which can also cause tip damage. If you are doing work that requires an impact driver, please consider impact bits as a vital accessory. Your impact driver will thank us.

Are all of our tools made in Germany?

made in germany
KC Tool is America’s leading German Tool distributor. We specialize in German Tools and besides a couple products we produce ourselves, we only sell German brands of tools. The question of where the tools are made comes up occasionally and can be a source of great debate. In an ideal world, the German tool brands we sell would manufacture all of their tools in Germany but unfortunately this is not the case. Brands such as Gedore and Knipex manufacture nearly all of their tools in Germany whereas others like Wera are almost exclusively produced outside of Germany.  Wiha has factories in Germany and many other countries. So the big question is:

DOES IT MATTER?
