Affordable, High Quality Torque Wrench for Coax Cable from Wiha Tools

Coax Cable Torque Wrench

Wiha makes a series of Cable Keys for use with our standard Torque Screwdrivers, designed specifically to prevent over-tightening of all sizes of HEX cable connectors.

Over-torquing can possibly crush the insulation, as well as the center contacts and ground mating surfaces. Any change to those can alter the impedance and increase the VSWR. Under-torquing can be just as bad if an air-gap is left in the insulator, or the center pin or  ground mating surface isn’t fully engaged. This becomes a more significant problem with higher Gigahertz.

Typical Torque Settings for Coax Cable can Range from 3in-lb to 15in-lb depending on the connector type.  If you typically use Stainless Steel we recommend Wiha’s 7.5in-lb to 20in-lb Torque Screwdriver. For Brass Connectors you will need something lighter duty like the 15-80in-oz Torque Screwdriver.

If your house was built in the 1960’s or 1970’s there is a good chance your house may be wired with aluminum wire. Aluminum wire can cause fires especially when connecting old aluminum wire with new copper wire.  Never use a wire nut to connect aluminum and copper wire.  The two metals expand and contract at different rates so the connection can become loose, arc, and eventually start a fire. Don’t worry, there is a safe way to connect your old aluminum wire to a new copper fixture or other copper wire.  Its called Alumiconn and its a brilliant little device that takes the danger out of making aluminum to copper splices.

To be safe, the slotted screws that hold the wire in place need to be torqued to the manufacturers specified torque of 10 or 15 In/lbs for #10 and #12 wire respectively.

Insulated Tools for Toyota Prius High Voltage Battery Repair

Want to safely replace your Prius or other hybrid HV battery?  Toyota recommends that you wear insulated gloves to protect yourself from electric shock but what about protecting your extremely expensive high voltage battery and wiring system?  You should consider using insulated tools while working on your high voltage battery because a standard ratchet wrench or socket extension can cause major damage if it were to fall into the battery area and make an unwanted connection between positive and negative points carrying over 200 volts DC.  We have a customer who had this very thing happen and caused almost $7000 in damage.  Our Wiha insulated tools are tested to withstand 10,000 volts and can prevent this kind of damage.

Wiha Tools now offers High Quality, German made, Ratcheting Cable Cutters.

These high leverage ratcheting cable cutters with shear blades cut stranded and flexible copper and aluminum cables. They feature a built in safety release in all cutting positions  and high visibility comfort grip handles. These cutters are individually tested and rated up to 1000v.
